Effective date: January 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Proper (“Proper,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use our website, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

Proper (Proper Home, LLC) connects customers seeking home cleaning services (“Customers”) with independent contractors who perform cleaning services (“Contractors”). Proper is not a cleaning company and does not itself perform cleaning services.

1. Information We Collect

A. Information you provide

  • Account information: name, email, phone number, password (hashed), profile details.
  • Booking details: service address, requested date/time, home details you choose to provide, instructions/preferences, access notes, communications.
  • Support and communications: messages you send to us, feedback, dispute information.
  • Contractor onboarding (if you are a Contractor): profile details, service area, availability, identity/verification information, tax and payout-related details, background or eligibility information if required, and other information needed to operate the platform.

B. Payment information (Stripe)

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store full payment card numbers. Stripe may collect payment details, billing information, and other transaction-related data directly. Contractors may receive payouts through Stripe (e.g., Stripe Connect). Your information is subject to Stripe’s policies in addition to ours.

C. Information collected automatically

  • Device and usage data: IP address, device identifiers, browser type, pages viewed, actions taken, timestamps, referring URLs.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: used for authentication, preferences, analytics, and security.
  • Approximate location: inferred from IP address for fraud prevention and service availability (we do not require precise GPS location for basic use).

D. Information from third parties

  • Payment processors (Stripe): transaction status, payment confirmations, dispute and refund signals.
  • Identity/verification providers (if used): verification outcomes and risk signals.
  • Analytics providers: aggregated usage insights.

2. How We Use Information

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Services (including booking creation, scheduling, and matching).
  • Process payments and facilitate Contractor payouts via Stripe.
  • Enable communications between Customers and Contractors (for example, to coordinate access, timing, and instructions).
  • Customer support, dispute handling, refunds, and chargebacks.
  • Fraud prevention, platform security, and enforcement of our Terms.
  • Analytics and performance monitoring to improve reliability and user experience.
  • Send transactional notices (booking updates, receipts, policy updates) and, if you opt in, marketing messages.

3. How Matching Works

We may attempt to assign the same Contractor for repeat services at the same address to promote consistency. However, we do not guarantee that the same Contractor will be available for any booking, and Contractors may change for operational or availability reasons.

4. How We Share Information

We share information as needed to run the Services, including:

  • Between Customers and Contractors: booking information, service address, instructions, and contact details as necessary to perform or coordinate services.
  • Service providers: hosting, analytics, customer support tools, communications providers, and security vendors.
  • Payment processing and payouts: Stripe for payment processing and Contractor payouts.
  • Legal and safety: to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect rights and safety, and enforce our Terms.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.

5. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and for legitimate business purposes. Retention periods vary based on the type of data and context of collection.

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • Account information: you can access and update certain profile details in your account settings.
  • Marketing: you may opt out of promotional emails by using the unsubscribe link (transactional messages may still be sent).
  • Cookies: you can adjust browser settings to manage cookies; some features may not work if cookies are disabled.
  • Deletion: you may request deletion of your account, subject to legal/operational retention needs.

7. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s Privacy

The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required by applicable law), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. International Users

If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version and update the effective date. Your continued use of the Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
